Professional Drain Cleaning SuccessfulWhen your drain gets clogged, you not only want it cleaned, but you want it to stay that way. There are four basic methods to clean a drain depending upon the severity of the clog.

Chemical Drain Cleaning

Chemical Drain Cleaner range from very mild to very strong. They may be acidic or enzymatic.  Mild drain cleaners are effective is you are trying to clean hair from a bathroom sink or shower drain.  Stronger chemicals such as acid may be needed for tough kitchen sink drains.

Always use caution when using chemicals. Just as they eat through hair in the drain, they are harmful to the skin.

Snakes and Augers

Chemicals may solve the simple clogs, but not all clogs.  When a chemical is unable to clear the clog, mechanical  methods are needed. They are often called a plumber’s snake or auger.

A snake is a flexible steel rod that is pushed down the drain.  Its flexibility allows it to ‘snake’ through the drain to the point where the clog is.  The turning of the snake loosens the blockage.

Smaller snakes are manual operated while the larger ones are electrical.

Jetter Cleaning Service

Probably the best way to clean a sewer line is with a hydro jetter.  A jetter uses high pressure water in the same way water pressure is used to wash your car.  The high pressure pierces through the clog and removes the buildup on the pipe as well.

Hydro Jetters are safe, eco-friendly and effective.

Replace the Sewer or Drain Line

Sometimes the problem just can’t be fixed with chemicals, snakes or jetters. If the professional drain cleaner runs his snake out trough the line and his mud, the problem is quite serious.  That means there is a break in the line and earth has entered the line.

The typical way the earth enters is through a break in the line. You might ask how a line buried in the ground can break. One possible way is that a root has grown against it and the pressure over the years is finally enough to cause it to break.

The only way to fix it is to dig it up and repair or replace it.
